New Year, new cleaning routine

A new year gives you the opportunity to start fresh with a new office cleaning routine. Since we tend to spend a majority of our lives at work, it makes a lot of sense to make sure you keep the workplace is clean and hygienic.

When you keep your office clean, not only is it visually appealing, it has benefits of a hygienic environment for your staff and any visitors. Less germs are likely to spread throughout the office and this will result in less days off sick.

Desks

Desks are often the place where germs will harbour as you are sat there the entire day and using equipment frequently throughout the day. This means equipment like computers, phones and keyboards need to disinfected and wiped down frequently. This is even more important if you eat your lunch at your desk.

It is important to sort through paperwork and clear out any filing cabinets. Wipe these down every so often to prevent the build up of dust and dirt. Another prevention is to keep all food and drink stored in the kitchen or a fridge, and not in a drawer. This will prevent germs spreading throughout the office and help maintain and more hygienic environment.

Toilets

Keeping your bathroom clean is really important for the health your employees. Areas such as sinks, floors and toilets should be regularly disinfected and wiped down. This will prevent anyone from becoming ill.

Bins should be emptied regularly and there should be a constant supply of paper towels, soap and hand sanitiser to prevent germs from spreading throughout the workplace. Polish any mirrors and wipe down all surfaces / door handles and your bathrooms should be disinfected. Consider even putting an air fragrance spray in the bathroom to get rid of any unpleasant odours and keep it smelling fresh.

Kitchen

Kitchens can be a hotspot for harbouring germs as it is where food and drink is most handled. Appliances such as microwaves and toasters should be kept clean to maintain hygiene with these areas. Any spillages should be cleaned up immediately as this is a common way for germs to spread.

Kitchens should be cleaned the most frequently out of any area within the office. Wipe down surfaces after every use and mop the floor every day. This will maintain a hygienic area for all your employees. It is important to keep all communal areas clean within the workplace to prevent the spread of any germs or illnesses.

By making small steps towards keeping your workspace clean and organised will go a long way. Habits such as keeping your workspace tidy and filing away paperwork will have many benefits when working in the office.
